Study shows viability of low stim IVF

When reading clinical studies, you need to keep something very important in mind … the results of one clinical study will not change the way that medicine is practiced overnight. Typically, studies are fairly small and it is very common to find studies that contradict one another. But, with all that in mind, it is still useful to read clinical studies to get an idea of what’s going on “behind the scenes” in designing IVF protocols or in analyzing test results.

This recent study is fairly small but was designed to compare the use of mild ovarian stimulation protocol with a somewhat higher – more moderate ovarian stimulation protocol. The result of the study indicates that the mild IVF protocol results in fewer transferred embryos but a comparable pregnancy rate. Keep in mind also that this study was not studying women with high FSH, but it provides an interesting bit of information, nonetheless.
